I first heard about freediving from a client, who linked floating to the meditative qualities of freediving. Staying calm and controlled is crucial when you’re diving hundreds of feet into the ocean on a single breath.
“The unimportant things fell away leaving a relaxing calm and clarity of thought. I would equate it to the mental equivalent of panning for gold – gradually eliminating the detritus and disposable parts, and leaving behind the nuggets – the things that really matter.”
You do deep breathing exercises in the toilet. You blast meditative music through your noise cancelling earphones. You chant mantras under your breath as you rush to another unnecessary meeting.
Feel like your job is getting in the way of zen?…
‘Fresh off the float’ is pretty much our umbrella term for everything that floatation inspires – events, music, writing, etc. Two months ago, we added a barter art project to the mix, where we trade floats for artworks.
